One of the cool tech cats that I follow from TechRepublic, Jason Hiner, posted a link from VentureBeat, that Amazon may be taking a hard look at Palm and its WebOS. I hope that it is true, because, HP’s handling of Palm is almost as bad as AOL’s handling of Netscape. FAIL! The failure of the HP’s Touch Pad was not the WebOS, it was the same problem it has always been, the hardware. HP married WebOS to cheap /underwhelming/unpowered hardware and then tried to sell it at $499? The Touchpad fire sale shows that it did not fail because people did not like it, it failed because no one wanted to pay that much for what it offered. Amazon looks to have learning both of those lessons, proper hardware (judgment withheld until the review hit in Nov.) and proper price point. Amazon can sell the Fire better price point because they are using the King Gillette model, “Give away the Razor and Sell you the Blades”, i.e., Give away the Tablet, because we no you will consume out Content and buy our products. via VentureBeat.
